(Web Desk): Punjab has announced a Rs 600 million internship programme for 1,000 veterinary graduates and para-vets, with applications open until May 15, 2026.

The Punjab government has launched a major internship programme worth Rs 600 million for veterinary graduates and para-vets, opening new employment opportunities for young professionals across the province. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that the initiative aims to strengthen livestock services while helping fresh graduates gain practical field experience.

Monthly stipend announced

Under the programme, veterinary graduates will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 60,000. Para-vets selected under the scheme will be paid Rs 40,000 per month.

Officials said the financial support is intended to help young professionals begin their careers while also improving animal health services in rural and urban areas of Punjab.

Internship quota for 2026

For the current year, the internship quota has been fixed at 264 seats for veterinary graduates and 371 seats for para-vets. Authorities said recruitment will be carried out through a transparent application process.

The government earlier announced that the programme would cover 1,000 young professionals in total. Officials expect more placements to be made in phases as the scheme expands.

Application deadline extended

In a relief for applicants, the deadline for submission of applications has been extended until May 15, 2026.

Candidates interested in applying have been asked to fill out the online form available on the official jobs portal of the Government of Punjab.

Why the programme matters

Punjab has one of Pakistan’s largest livestock sectors, and experts say trained veterinary professionals are essential for improving productivity, disease control and animal welfare.

Officials believe the internship will not only provide employment support to graduates but also help farmers by improving access to professional veterinary care. The initiative is also expected to strengthen the livestock economy, which remains an important source of income for thousands of families in the province.
