Highly educated Suthra Punjab worker secures new job
A highly educated sanitation worker employed under the Suthra Punjab programme has secured a new job in the Finance Department after his story drew widespread public attention and highlighted the challenges of youth unemployment.
Mazhar Abbas, a graduate of the University of Sargodha, had been working as a sanitation worker in Gujranwala despite holding a stenography certificate and an associate engineering diploma.
His fluency in English, strong educational background and technical qualifications attracted widespread attention after media reports highlighted his struggle to find a job that matched his skills and qualifications.
Following public support and extensive media coverage, the authorities offered Abbas an administrative position in the Finance Department that better reflects his qualifications and professional abilities.

The decision has been widely welcomed by the public, with many saying educated young people should be given employment opportunities that match their qualifications and abilities. Many social media users had earlier urged the government to provide Abbas with a suitable office-based job instead of assigning him work unrelated to his education.
Abbas’ story also highlighted the growing issue of unemployment among educated youth in Punjab, where many graduates are forced to accept low-paying jobs because of limited employment opportunities.
His appointment to the Finance Department has turned his story into an example of how public awareness and timely action by the authorities can help deserving individuals secure better career opportunities.
