Govt announces new e-passport fees
New e-passport fees explained
The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has listed different charges for electronic passports valid for five and 10 years.
The fees also depend on whether applicants choose normal or urgent processing. People can select a passport according to their travel needs, preferred validity and budget.
Applicants should check the applicable fee before submitting their applications to avoid confusion during the process.
Five-year e-passport fees
For a five-year e-passport with 36 pages, the normal processing fee is Rs9,000. Applicants choosing urgent processing will have to pay Rs15,000.
The charges are higher for a 72-page passport. The normal fee is Rs16,500, while urgent processing costs Rs27,000.
People who travel frequently may consider the number of pages they need before selecting their passport category.
Ten-year e-passport fees
Applicants seeking a 10-year e-passport will pay Rs13,500 for a 36-page document under normal processing.
The urgent fee for the same passport is Rs22,500.
For a 72-page e-passport valid for 10 years, the normal fee is Rs24,750. Applicants choosing urgent processing will pay Rs40,500.
This is the highest charge listed in the announced schedule. Applicants should compare the available options before deciding which passport best suits their requirements.
