Freight train splits in two, leaving passenger trains stranded for hours
Railway operations faced major disruption after a freight train met with an accident near Luddan, causing the train to split into two parts and blocking a key railway track.
According to railway sources, the incident occurred on the down track, which was immediately closed for traffic following the accident. The blockage affected train schedules and left hundreds of passengers waiting at different stations.
Officials said several passenger trains heading towards Karachi were forced to halt due to the disruption. Millat Express remained stranded at Jahanian Station for around three hours, while Karakoram Express was stopped at Qutab Pur Station for nearly four hours.
Meanwhile, Allama Iqbal Express was delayed the longest, remaining stationary at Dunyapur Station for approximately five hours as railway authorities worked to clear the affected track.
Although no casualties or injuries were reported in the accident, the incident caused significant inconvenience to passengers, many of whom were travelling long distances. Delays also raised concerns about railway operations and the condition of freight transport infrastructure.
Railway officials said emergency and technical teams were dispatched to the site soon after the accident. Heavy machinery and recovery crews have been engaged in efforts to remove damaged wagons and restore train movement.
Authorities expressed hope that the down track would be reopened after completion of repair and clearance work. An investigation is also expected to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The latest disruption highlights the challenges faced by Pakistan’s rail network, where track blockages and operational delays can quickly affect thousands of passengers across the country.
