Field Marshal Asim Munir arrives in Iran to attend Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's funeral
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has arrived in Tehran to attend the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. His visit is part of Pakistan’s official delegation attending the state funeral.
Upon his arrival, Field Marshal Asim Munir was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, along with senior Iranian military and civilian officials. Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, was also present to welcome him to the Iranian capital.
The visit reflects Pakistan’s participation in the funeral proceedings, where senior Pakistani leaders are expected to convey condolences and express solidarity with the government and people of Iran during this period of mourning. Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed from Islamabad on a one-day official visit to Iran to attend the funeral of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The prime minister is accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Atta Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari, and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will convey condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to the Iranian leadership. He will also reaffirm Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Iran during this period of grief.

After completing his engagements in Tehran, the prime minister is scheduled to travel to Istanbul for a separate bilateral visit to Türkiye. Iran is preparing for several days of funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Leaders and dignitaries from various countries are expected to attend the events, while large public processions are planned in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad, along with ceremonies in Iraq.
Iranian religious leader Ayatollah Mohammad Saidi said a large public turnout at the funeral would demonstrate support for the Islamic Republic. Authorities have also tightened security and completed extensive preparations for the funeral events, as thousands of mourners are expected to participate.
