Skardu (Web Desk): Five more bodies of climbers killed in the Broad Peak avalanche have been brought to Skardu, taking the total number of recovered victims to eight as rescue teams continue searching for two missing climbers.

Search continues for two missing climbers

According to the Deputy Commissioner, rescue teams are still searching for two missing climbers. The missing individuals have been identified as Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi and a foreign woman climber.

Officials said ground teams continue searching the avalanche-hit area while carefully assessing weather conditions and safety risks. Authorities remain hopeful that the remaining climbers can be located as the operation continues.

Pakistani and Nepalese climbers lead recovery mission

The recovery mission is being carried out by a joint ground team of experienced Pakistani and Nepalese climbers. The team also includes renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja, who is assisting with the challenging rescue and recovery efforts.

Officials said the expertise of international climbers has played an important role in reaching the avalanche site. The harsh mountain conditions have made every stage of the operation extremely demanding.

An avalanche claims the lives of 10 climbers

The deadly avalanche struck Broad Peak several days ago, resulting in one of the worst mountaineering disasters in the mountain’s history. According to the President of the Alpine Club, the avalanche claimed the lives of 10 climbers.

The tragedy has shocked Pakistan’s mountaineering community and drawn condolences from around the world. Broad Peak is considered one of the world’s most challenging mountains because of its extreme weather, high altitude, and difficult climbing routes.

Earlier recoveries during the operation

The President of the Alpine Club said that during the first phase of the search operation, rescuers recovered the bodies of a Nepalese climber and an Omani woman climber. The team also recovered partial remains believed to belong to another climber.

Officials said the initial recoveries helped rescuers assess the scale of the disaster. The search operation was later expanded with additional resources and support.

Pakistan Army helicopters assist recovery

On Thursday, Pakistan Army helicopters helped transport five more recovered bodies from Broad Peak to Skardu. The recovered victims included four Nepalese climbers and one Chinese climber.

Officials said helicopter support was essential because of the mountain’s difficult terrain and limited ground access. The bodies were safely transferred to Skardu for further legal and administrative procedures.

Rescue teams face difficult conditions

Rescue officials said the operation is continuing under extremely difficult weather and high-altitude conditions. Avalanche risks, freezing temperatures, and rugged terrain have slowed the search efforts.

Despite these challenges, rescue teams remain committed to locating the remaining missing climbers. Authorities said every possible effort is being made to complete the recovery mission safely.

Mountaineering community mourns the tragedy

The Broad Peak avalanche has deeply affected Pakistan’s mountaineering community and the families of the victims. Officials and fellow climbers have expressed sorrow over the loss of experienced mountaineers during the expedition.

Experts say climbing peaks above 8,000 metres always carries significant risks despite careful planning and strict safety measures. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by climbers attempting some of the world’s highest mountains.
