7 different bans imposed by Govt for Muharram across Punjab
The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province from 1st to 10th Muharram (June 17 to June 26) as part of comprehensive Muharram security measures aimed at maintaining law and order during the holy month.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, seven major restrictions have been enforced under Section 144 Punjab to strengthen security and prevent any untoward incidents. Authorities stated that only officially approved Muharram processions and religious gatherings will be allowed, while no new traditions, events, or activities can be introduced during the period.
The notification also prohibits the public display of weapons, explosives, and other hazardous materials without prior permission from the relevant authorities. Furthermore, provocative slogans, speeches, gestures, comments, or actions that may incite sectarian tensions or hurt religious sentiments have been strictly banned.
As part of the Muharram security measures, authorities have also outlawed the distribution and promotion of material that spreads sectarian hatred or ethnic divisions. Security concerns have led to a ban on constructing observation posts on rooftops located along procession routes or storing stones, bricks, bottles, or other objects that could be used to disrupt public order.
Moreover, spectators will not be allowed to gather on rooftops, balconies, or shop platforms situated along Muharram processions routes. A ban on double riding will also be enforced on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, although senior citizens, women, and law enforcement personnel have been exempted.
Officials said Section 144 Punjab has been introduced to ensure peaceful observance of religious events. The government has directed all relevant departments to widely publicize the restrictions and ensure strict implementation of the Muharram security measures throughout the province.
