39km Rawalpindi Ring Road routes finalised as opening date confirmed?

The major infrastructure project is now in its final phase and is expected to open to traffic soon.

The 38.6-kilometer Rawalpindi Ring Road is seen as a major development for the city’s traffic system. Authorities said the road could become operational by June 15, depending on final approvals.

The entire road has been fully carpeted, while key interchanges including Baanth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala and Chakri have already been completed. Only minor finishing work and remaining sewerage tasks are still in progress.

Officials explained that the road will initially open through the GT Road Baanth Interchange. Motorway access will also be available even though the Thalian Interchange is still under construction.

According to sources in the Rawalpindi Development Authority, the project is nearly finished except for the second phase of the Thalian Interchange. The overall cost of the project has reached Rs46,640,000,000, including land acquisition for Phase II.

Once fully completed, the Thalian Interchange will provide direct access to the motorway from another point. Officials said this will further improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in Rawalpindi.

The formal inauguration date will be decided and approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Authorities believe the new Ring Road will significantly reduce travel time and ease pressure on city roads.

The near completion of Rawalpindi Ring Road shows how large infrastructure projects can change daily travel patterns. Commuters are expected to benefit the most once it opens.

However, full benefits will only come after the Thalian Interchange is completed. Until then, traffic improvements will be partial but still noticeable.
