Officials said that Lahore will be the first city where modern BYD electric vehicles will be used for traffic and police patrolling. Each electric vehicle can travel up to 410 kilometers on a single charge and can be fast-charged from 30 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.
The vehicles are equipped with a modern surveillance PA system, police lights, a 360-degree camera, and speed detection tools to support effective policing.
The briefing revealed that 103 patrol vehicles currently consume around 28,000 liters of fuel every month, costing about Rs7.42 million. With electric vehicles, each car is expected to save nearly 4,500 liters of fuel every year, while also reducing operational costs and ensuring zero carbon emissions.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed that the number of electric vehicles for the green policing unit should be increased gradually. She also ordered that the project be launched in phases across other districts of Punjab.
