The Punjab government is preparing a major expansion of its flagship “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing scheme to support more low-income families across the province.
The Bank of Punjab has drafted a financing plan worth Rs60 billion under the new framework, aimed at increasing the number of beneficiaries. The proposal has been forwarded to the Chief Minister’s office by the Punjab Phata Agency and is awaiting cabinet approval. Once approved, thousands of additional families are expected to benefit from the scheme.
Officials emphasized that the expansion will continue to offer interest-free housing loans, ensuring that low-income citizens have access to affordable homes. Since its inception, the Punjab government has spent Rs164 billion on the initiative, helping thousands of households secure housing.
The scheme provides a structured mechanism for financing, with easy installment plans and transparent eligibility criteria, making it one of the province’s most successful programs for reducing the housing deficit.

Authorities say the expansion reflects Punjab’s ongoing commitment to easing the financial burden on families struggling to afford homes. By widening access to affordable housing, the government aims to improve living standards and promote social welfare across urban and rural areas.
The expansion is expected to not only provide shelter but also stimulate local construction, create jobs, and strengthen the province’s housing market. Officials are hopeful that the program will continue to empower low-income citizens and contribute to long-term economic growth.
