Motorways closed as Islamabad routes shut ahead of PTI long march

M-1 closed to all traffic

The Islamabad-Peshawar M-1 Motorway has been closed to all types of traffic between the Islamabad Toll Plaza and Chachh Interchange until further notice. Several interchanges, including Fateh Jang, Tarnol, Sangjani, Brahma Bahter, Burhan, Hazara Motorway, Ghazi and Chachh, are also affected.

Islamabad Traffic Police has advised people travelling from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and nearby areas to avoid the M-1 and postpone non-essential journeys. The M-2 Lahore-Islamabad Motorway, however, remains open to traffic, according to the traffic advisory.

M-14 and GT Road also shut

The M-14 Islamabad-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway has also been closed in both directions from Hakla to Kundal. The closure affects several interchanges, including Hakla, Fateh Jang, Pindi Gheb, Kharpa, Tarap, Daud Khel, Kot Balian, Isa Khel and Kundal.

The N-5 Grand Trunk Road has also been closed in both directions at Attock Khurd. The closures are part of wider traffic restrictions announced by authorities and are set to remain in place until further notice.

More roads face restrictions

The Hazara Motorway (E-35), Rawalpindi-Kohat Road and Abbottabad-Hassanabdal Road are also among the routes affected by the latest traffic advisory. The Islamabad Traffic Police has asked motorists to plan their journeys and use alternative routes where possible.

The restrictions come as authorities increase security preparations ahead of the PTI’s planned September 27 march towards Islamabad. Reports say security arrangements have also been strengthened around Attock and other important entry points.

Motorists urged to check latest updates

Travellers heading towards Islamabad from Lahore, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Punjab may face delays or diversions. They have been advised to check the latest traffic updates before starting their journeys and follow instructions from the NHMP and Islamabad Police.

The closures are currently linked to law-and-order and security arrangements surrounding the planned political activity. Further changes to the road situation will depend on official decisions and traffic advisories.

The latest restrictions affect several important routes connecting Islamabad with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern areas. The M-2 remains open, giving Lahore-Islamabad travellers an alternative route.

The situation may change as security arrangements develop. Travellers should therefore rely on official traffic advisories before leaving and avoid closed routes.
