Government begins audit to check ministry performance and delays

PM Office begins nationwide review

The Prime Minister’s Office has launched a comprehensive PM Office audit of federal ministries and divisions covering their work from February 2024 until now.

The federal ministries review is aimed at checking whether ministries have achieved government targets, completed assigned projects and properly implemented official policies.

Officials said the government performance evaluation will help improve accountability and make government institutions more efficient.

Which ministries are included?

The review covers a wide range of federal institutions.

According to official details, 18 ministries linked to economic growth and infrastructure development are part of the assessment.

Another 14 regulatory and oversight ministries are also being evaluated, along with nine divisions responsible for social and cultural services.

The Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives and the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety are among the departments included in the federal ministries review.

Ministries ordered to submit complete reports

The Prime Minister’s Office has issued a standard evaluation form that every ministry must complete.

Departments have been directed to provide details of assigned responsibilities, implementation schedules, completed projects and pending work.

They must also explain reasons for delays, identify obstacles affecting progress and describe corrective measures taken to improve performance.

Officials warned that incomplete reports or general explanations will not be accepted during the PM Office audit.

Focus on reforms and efficiency

The review is not limited to development projects.

Ministries have also been instructed to report reforms introduced to reduce unnecessary spending, improve administrative efficiency, modernize systems and strengthen human resource management.

The government performance evaluation will also examine how these reforms have improved public services and reduced operational costs.

Officials believe the findings will help identify departments that require further improvements.

Development projects also under scrutiny

Every ministry must submit details of ongoing and completed development projects.

The reports should include completion dates, project outcomes and evidence showing that public funds have been used effectively.

Officials said every achievement mentioned during the government performance evaluation must be supported with official documents and records.

The Prime Minister’s Office has linked the exercise with ministries’ legal responsibilities under the Rules of Business, 1973.

Aim is better governance

Authorities say the federal ministries review is intended to strengthen transparency, improve planning and ensure that government departments perform according to their legal responsibilities.

Officials believe the review could also help speed up delayed projects and improve decision-making across ministries.
