Bilawal, President Zardari in Australia for PPP chairman’s marriage talks
The source said President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto are in Austria for discussions with the family of a prospective bride.
The source, who spoke anonymously, claimed that Zardari and Bilawal had met members of the family three times since arriving in Austria. The family has reportedly been linked to Austria’s former royal household.
Possible family connection
Reports have linked the prospective bride to the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, Austria’s former imperial family. Some reports have also described her as a descendant of Karl I, the last reigning Emperor of Austria.
According to the PPP source, Bilawal and the prospective bride have known each other for several years. The source also claimed that they share many mutual friends.
Possible wedding plans
The source said the wedding could take place in Vienna later this year. However, neither Bilawal nor his family has made any formal announcement about an engagement or marriage.
The source further said Zardari and Bilawal may travel to the United Kingdom after their Austria visit. They are expected to spend around 10 days in London and other parts of the UK, with members of the prospective bride’s family possibly joining them.
Speculation continues
The Presidency confirmed on August 27 that President Zardari had travelled abroad on a private visit but did not give details about its purpose. Bilawal has also travelled to the UK several times for private and political activities.
Meanwhile, Karachi Mayor and senior PPP leader Murtaza Wahab denied reports that Bilawal is getting married. He described the reports circulating in the media and on social media as incorrect.
The marriage story remains unconfirmed at the official level. While a PPP source has provided details about the reported discussions, the denial from Murtaza Wahab means the claims should be treated as speculation until the Bhutto-Zardari family makes a formal statement.
