PHC Bar condemns Maryam Nawaz statement

The Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) has strongly condemned Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s statement about “threats from neighbouring provinces”. The association demanded that she publicly and unconditionally apologise to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The PHCBA executive council held a meeting under President Aminur Rehman Yousafzai. always General Secretary Ashfaq Ahmad Daudzai conducted the meeting, according to a press release.

Lawyers reject remarks about KP

The council said Maryam Nawaz’s remarks about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were “irresponsible” and based on prejudice. It said such comments could hurt the people of the province and create hatred among citizens.

The lawyers stressed that national unity and harmony between provinces are especially important at this time. They said divisive statements could damage relations between different parts of the country.

KP sacrifices highlighted

The PHCBA said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had made major sacrifices during the fight against terrorism. It pointed out that thousands of civilians, police officers and security personnel had lost their lives for Pakistan’s peace and stability.

“Terrorism is not specific to one province; it is an issue faced by the entire nation. To blame one province is regrettable, condemnable and unacceptable,” read the press release.

Call for apology and unity

The council called on Maryam Nawaz to withdraw her statement and issue a public apology to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly the Pakhtun community. It also asked her to recognise the sacrifices made by KP residents, police and security forces.

The PHCBA said political leaders should work to bring provinces and communities together instead of creating divisions. It warned that statements creating differences could further weaken national unity.

“Recognising the sacrifices of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and refraining from making such provocative statements is essential for the country’s peace, stability and unity.

It is the need of the hour to promote respect, harmony and brotherhood among all provinces and nations,” the release said.

The controversy shows how sensitive statements about provinces can become. The PHCBA’s response focuses on national unity and the sacrifices made by people and security forces in KP.

The association believes political leaders should avoid comments that may increase tensions between provinces. Its demand for an apology also shows the seriousness with which the legal fraternity views the remarks.
