First woman LHC CJ Alia Neelam takes oath of office

LAHORE: (Suno News) Alia Neelam, the first woman Chief Justice (CJ) of the Lahore High Court (LHC), took the oath of office. The Punjab governor and chief minister congratulated CJ Alia Neelam on taking the oath of office.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new LHC CJ was held at the Governor House where Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan administered the oath to CJ Alia Neelam. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was present at the swearing-in ceremony.

LHC judges Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Ali Baqer Najafi, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza, and Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi were also present in the ceremony. Other judges of the LHC, the Supreme Court, former LHC judges, and lawyers also attended the ceremony.

Justice Alia Neelam of Lahore was born on November 12, 1966. She obtained her law degree from the Punjab University Law College in 1995. She also obtained other diplomas in law. She was registered as an advocate on February 1, 1996.

Justice Alia Neelam became an LHC lawyer in 1998 and a Supreme Court lawyer in 2008. In her 28-year-long career, she practiced constitutional, civil, criminal, terrorism and other fields of law.

Justice Alia Neelam was appointed as an ad-hoc judge in the LHC in 2013 and became a permanent judge of the LHC in 2015. She also issued SOPs for recording evidence on video link.

Justice Alia Neelam is the fourth woman lawyer of the LHC who has been performing her duties as an LHC judge. She will serve in this post till June 11, 2028.
