New transport jobs approved

The Punjab government has approved 332 new appointments for transport authorities across the province.

The move comes as officials look to strengthen the workforce and improve the performance of transport departments at the district level.

Under the approved recruitment plan, several categories of employees will be hired for different responsibilities.

The appointments will cover transport officers, junior transport officers, head constables, constables and drivers.

Officers and police staff among new hires

The Punjab Transport Authority will recruit 25 Transport Officers in Grade 14 under the new plan.

Another 25 Junior Transport Officers in Grade 11 will also be appointed.

In addition, the authority will hire 123 head constables and 123 constables.

These employees are expected to support transport authorities in carrying out their duties and dealing with operational requirements across the province.

The recruitment is part of a wider effort to deal with staff shortages that have affected transport authorities in different districts.

36 drivers also included

The approved plan also includes the recruitment of 36 drivers.

Unlike the other positions, the drivers will be hired on a lump-sum salary package.

According to the plan, the salary package for the drivers will be decided by a selection board headed by the Chief Secretary of Punjab.

This means the final pay package will be determined through the approved selection process.

Three-year contracts for all employees

All 332 employees will initially be appointed on a three-year contract.

The government has also decided that the recruitment will not require additional funds.

Instead, the expenses related to the new appointments will be managed through the existing budget.

This arrangement is expected to allow the government to fill vacant or required positions without allocating a separate amount for the recruitment.

Focus on district transport authorities

Officials said the new appointments are aimed at addressing staff shortages in Punjab’s 36 district transport authorities.

The shortage of staff has created challenges for transport departments in managing their responsibilities.

With additional employees, authorities are expected to have greater capacity to handle their daily operations.

The new appointments could also help distribute responsibilities more effectively among existing and newly recruited staff.
