Govt employees to get e-bikes under Punjab scheme
The Punjab government has announced that its electric bike (e-bike) scheme will be expanded to government employees after the completion of the first phase for students. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz as part of the province’s broader plan to promote environmentally friendly transportation.
Under the programme, the government will initially distribute 100,000 e-bikes to students through an interest-free instalment plan. Once the student phase is completed, government employees will also become eligible to receive e-bikes under the same scheme.
The Punjab government will provide a subsidy of Rs70,000 for each e-bike. Beneficiaries will be able to purchase the vehicles through an interest-free instalment plan, with estimated monthly payments of around Rs2,100.

Officials said the initiative is designed to make electric vehicles more affordable, reduce transportation costs and encourage the use of clean energy across the province. The scheme is expected to help thousands of students and government employees switch to affordable and environmentally friendly transportation.
The e-bike programme is part of Punjab’s broader green transport strategy, which also includes the expansion of electric buses, e-taxis and other environmentally friendly public transport projects. The government believes these initiatives will help create cleaner cities, reduce pollution and promote sustainable transportation across the province.
