(Web Desk): Colleges in Azad Kashmir will now have two weekly holidays, with government and private colleges observing Saturday and Sunday as holidays.

AJK colleges shift to five-day week

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Higher Education Department has announced two weekly holidays for government and private colleges across the region. Under the new schedule, colleges will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Classes and routine academic activities will continue from Monday to Friday. The five-day working week will take effect immediately, according to an official notification.

New schedule applies to all colleges

The decision covers all public and private colleges under the administrative control of the AJK Higher Education Department. College administrations have been directed to follow the new schedule.

Academic and other routine activities will now be completed during the five working days. The change brings AJK colleges in line with similar weekly arrangements in several other parts of Pakistan.

KP Friday-Saturday holiday notification rejected

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Elementary and Secondary Education Department has clarified the situation surrounding a notification shared on social media. The department said the notification claiming Friday and Saturday holidays for educational institutions was fake.

The department said the fake notification was widely circulated online and created confusion among parents, teachers and students. It claimed that schools and other educational institutions would remain closed on Fridays and Saturdays for two months as part of fuel conservation measures.

KP schools to follow existing schedule

The KP Education Department said the circulated notification was not issued by the department. The clarification was issued to remove confusion about the weekly schedule of schools and other educational institutions.

The development means the alleged Friday-Saturday holiday announcement should not be treated as an official decision. Parents, teachers and students have been advised to rely on official information from the education department.

AJK has officially moved colleges to a five-day working week with Saturday and Sunday holidays. In KP, the education department has rejected the social media notification about Friday and Saturday holidays.
