Sweden visa offers Pakistanis a rare chance to move to Europe - Is job offered?
The program allows eligible candidates to search for jobs or explore business opportunities after arriving in Sweden.
The Swedish government is offering a special residence permit for talented individuals from non-European Union countries. The initiative aims to attract skilled professionals who can contribute to Sweden’s economy and labor market.
This permit allows successful applicants to stay in Sweden for up to nine months. However, the validity of the permit cannot be longer than the remaining validity of the applicant’s passport.
Applicants must be outside Sweden at the time of submitting their application. The visa is designed for people who want to explore employment opportunities or assess the potential for starting a business.
According to Swedish authorities, applicants must hold a higher education qualification equivalent to Sweden’s “Second Cycle” academic standard. This requirement is intended to ensure that candidates have advanced educational backgrounds.
Eligible qualifications include 60-credit or 120-credit master’s degrees, professional degrees, MPhil degrees, PhD degrees, or equivalent postgraduate qualifications. Pakistani degrees may also be accepted if they meet the required educational standards.

Educational qualifications alone are not enough to secure approval. Applicants must also show that they have sufficient financial resources to support themselves during their stay.
Candidates are required to have at least 13,000 Swedish kronor available each month. For a possible nine-month stay, they must show funds equivalent to at least 117,000 Swedish kronor in their bank account.
Additional financial resources are also needed to cover return travel expenses. Authorities want applicants to prove they can live independently without relying on public support.
Comprehensive health insurance is another mandatory requirement for applicants. The insurance must remain valid throughout the stay and cover emergency treatment, routine healthcare, hospitalization, emergency dental care, and medical repatriation.
The Swedish Migration Agency has set the application fee at 2,200 Swedish kronor. Around 75 percent of complete applications are decided within seven months, while cases requiring further review may take up to eight months.
Applicants must submit a clear passport copy, degrees, educational certificates, transcripts, bank statements, health insurance documents, and a consent form for qualification verification. Any documents that are not in English or Swedish must be accompanied by certified translations.
The entire application process is conducted online. Applicants can upload documents, choose the relevant embassy or consulate, and provide biometric information if required.
An important point is that this visa does not provide an immediate right to work. It is issued for job searching or business planning, and successful candidates must later apply for a regular work permit if they secure employment.
People interested in launching a business must apply separately for a self-employed residence permit. The current permit only allows them to explore opportunities and prepare their plans.
Experts believe the program could be highly beneficial for Pakistanis with advanced degrees who are looking for international career growth. It may also help talented professionals gain access to a competitive European job market.
Success is expected to be higher for applicants whose education, experience, and skills match Sweden’s labor market needs. Those with in-demand expertise are likely to have a stronger chance of securing long-term opportunities.
This visa creates a new pathway for qualified Pakistanis who want to build careers in Europe. While it does not guarantee a job, it gives skilled professionals valuable time to explore opportunities and make connections in Sweden.
