Big relief for govt employees and pensioners in Budget 2026-27
The federal government has announced several measures aimed at supporting public sector workers, armed forces personnel, and pensioners. The steps are intended to reduce financial pressure and improve income levels.
According to the Finance Bill, the 15 percent ad hoc relief allowance granted in 2022 and the 10 percent ad hoc relief allowance given in 2025 will be merged into the basic pay. This move will significantly increase employees’ basic salaries.
In addition, all federal government employees will receive a 7 percent ad hoc relief allowance on their running basic pay. The increase is expected to benefit thousands of workers across different departments.
The Finance Bill also proposes a Disparity Reduction Allowance equal to 15 percent of the 2026 basic pay for employees from Grade 1 to Grade 22. This measure aims to reduce salary gaps within the government workforce.
The government has further proposed a 50 percent increase in the conveyance allowance. The increase is expected to help employees manage rising transportation costs.
For Civil Armed Forces personnel, the Constant Attendant Allowance has been increased from Rs7,000 to Rs30,000 per month. This marks a substantial rise in support for eligible personnel.

The special pay for officers and staff of the Cabinet Division has also been increased. It will rise from Rs6,000 to Rs20,000 per month under the new budget proposals.
Employees of the National Highway and Motorway Police from Grade 1 to Grade 22 will receive a major increase in their special allowance. The allowance has been raised from 10 percent to 50 percent.
The Special Conveyance Allowance for Motorway Police employees has also been increased. It will rise from Rs6,000 to Rs10,000 per month.
The budget also includes a 7 percent increase in the basic pension of all pensioners. The government says these relief measures will come into effect from July 1, 2026.
The package is being viewed as one of the most significant relief efforts for public sector employees in recent years. Many workers and pensioners are expected to see a noticeable improvement in their monthly income.
The government has focused heavily on supporting employees and pensioners in this budget. Higher salaries and allowances may help offset rising living costs. The real impact will become clearer once the measures are implemented from July 2026.
