HEC and MoFA launch digital system for degree verification
Secure digital verification system
The agreement aims to connect the attestation systems of HEC and MoFA through a secure API-based system. This will allow MoFA to verify academic credentials attested by HEC directly and securely.
The new system is expected to make the verification process more reliable by enabling the two institutions to exchange verification information digitally. However, the announcement does not specify when the system will become operational or how long the process will take.
Who signed the agreement?
HEC Executive Director Prof Dr Zia Ul Haq and Foreign Secretary Asim Iftikhar Ahmad signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement sets the foundation for digital cooperation between the two institutions.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and HEC Chairman Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar witnessed the signing ceremony. Senior representatives from both organisations were also present.
How the system will work
According to HEC, the system will use secure application programming interface (API) integration to connect the two institutions’ existing systems. This will enable direct verification of academic credentials that have already been attested by HEC.
The announcement focuses on secure digital verification and does not provide details about public access, application procedures or any changes to existing requirements. Further information will be needed to understand how applicants will use the system.
What it means for applicants
The digital arrangement could make academic document verification more convenient by allowing the institutions to verify credentials directly. It may also reduce the need for manual coordination between the two departments.
However, the agreement alone does not confirm that all paperwork or in-person visits will be eliminated. Applicants should continue following the existing procedures until HEC and MoFA announce any formal changes.
The agreement is a step towards digital public services in Pakistan. Direct verification could make the process more secure and efficient.
Its real impact will depend on how quickly the system is introduced and how well it works. Clear instructions from both institutions will help applicants understand the new process.
