Web Desk: Pakistan’s education performance has raised concerns as the latest Human Development Index 2025 data places the country among the lowest in the region for key education indicators.

The latest Pakistan education ranking shows that several neighbouring countries have moved ahead in terms of expected and average years of schooling.

The figures highlight a growing education gap and renewed concerns about the country’s learning system.

According to the HDI 2025 Pakistan data, countries including Iran, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, and others have recorded stronger education outcomes compared to Pakistan. Experts say the findings reflect the need for urgent improvements in education access and quality.

Iran leads the regional comparison with 14 years of expected schooling and 10.8 mean years of schooling, securing an HDI rank of 77. Sri Lanka follows with 13.1 expected years and 10.8 mean years, ranking 88th globally.

The Maldives has also performed better with stronger education indicators, while Pakistan continues to face challenges in improving its schooling system.

The latest Pakistan schooling indicators show that the country needs greater focus on increasing average education years and improving learning standards.

Pakistan’s position in the regional education comparison highlights problems such as limited resources, unequal access to schools, and differences in education quality across areas.

Experts believe these factors are slowing progress and affecting the country’s overall development.

Afghanistan remains below Pakistan in the ranking, with fewer expected and mean years of schooling.

However, education experts warn that Pakistan must take serious steps to avoid falling further behind other regional countries.

The education crisis Pakistan faces requires long-term planning, stronger policies, and increased investment in the education sector.

Specialists say improving teacher training, school facilities, and access to education can help change the situation.

The latest Human Development Index 2025 findings have started a debate about Pakistan’s education priorities.
