(Web Desk): Petrol and diesel prices have increased nationwide, with the government raising petrol by Rs1.12 and diesel by Rs1.11 per litre for two days.

The government has announced another increase in petroleum prices, bringing a short-term rise in the cost of petrol and high-speed diesel.

According to an official notification, the new prices will remain effective for the next two days.

The price of petrol has been increased by Rs1.12 per litre, while high-speed diesel has become Rs1.11 more expensive per litre.

After the latest adjustment, petrol will now cost Rs343.10 per litre.

The new price of high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs371.80 per litre.

The government has not announced a longer validity period for these rates, meaning consumers could soon be watching closely for another price decision.

Petrol and diesel prices revised

The latest increase comes after previous adjustments in petroleum prices.

Before the newest change, petrol had already been increased by Rs0.39 per litre. High-speed diesel had also recorded a larger increase of Rs2.40 per litre.

The repeated changes are likely to affect motorists, transport operators and businesses that depend heavily on petroleum products.

Petrol prices directly influence the daily travel costs of millions of people, particularly those who use private vehicles and motorcycles.

Diesel prices are also important for the transport and goods movement sectors because trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles largely depend on diesel.

Any increase in fuel prices can therefore have a wider impact on transportation expenses.

Dealers’ margin also increased

The government had earlier approved a 14 percent increase in the dealers’ margin on petrol and diesel.

An additional Rs1.34 per litre was approved for dealers of both products with immediate effect.

Following that decision, the dealers’ margin increased from Rs8.64 to Rs9.98 per litre.

The dealers’ margin is included in the overall pricing structure of petroleum products and contributes to the amount paid by consumers at fuel stations.

The latest retail price increase, however, comes through a separate government notification covering petrol and diesel prices.

Impact on consumers

The higher petrol price could add to household expenses, especially for people who regularly travel long distances.

Motorcyclists and car owners may feel the increase directly when refuelling their vehicles.

The impact can also extend beyond fuel stations because transportation costs influence the movement of goods and services across the country.

Higher diesel prices can be particularly important for freight operators and public transport services.

When transportation costs increase, businesses may face higher operating expenses, which can eventually affect the prices of some goods.

However, the actual impact will depend on several factors, including future international oil prices, exchange rate movements and government decisions.
