According to official data, the average price of cement per bag has dropped by Rs36 compared to last year. Currently, the average nationwide price is recorded at Rs1,412 per bag, while a year ago it was Rs1,448 per bag. Authorities also noted that prices vary from city to city.
In Islamabad and Karachi, cement is being sold at Rs1,367 per bag, the lowest in major cities. Rawalpindi recorded Rs1,372, Faisalabad Rs1,370, while Peshawar has one of the cheapest rates at Rs1,350 per bag.
On the higher side, Lahore registered Rs1,443 per bag, Gujranwala and Bahawalpur Rs1,440, Sialkot Rs1,430, Sargodha Rs1,400, and Multan Rs1,409.
In Sindh, Hyderabad recorded Rs1,427, Sukkur stood at Rs1,465, and Larkana at Rs1,407. Meanwhile, in Balochistan, Quetta emerged as the most expensive city with cement prices hitting Rs1,510 per bag, followed by Khuzdar at Rs1,483.
Experts say the slowdown in construction due to heavy rains and floods has reduced demand, leading to a drop in prices. However, they warn that once conditions normalize and building activity resumes, cement prices are likely to rise again.

This sudden reduction in cement prices is directly tied to nature’s impact on Pakistan’s economy. Floods and heavy rains have brought construction activity to a near standstill, cutting down demand for key materials like cement.
While consumers may temporarily benefit from lower prices, the construction industry itself is facing stagnation. The situation highlights how vulnerable the economy is to climate-related disruptions.
Quetta’s price hike reflects regional supply chain challenges, whereas cities like Peshawar and Karachi remain relatively cheaper. Once flood conditions ease, pent-up demand for construction may push prices higher again, meaning this drop could be short-lived.
