BUNER (Web Desk): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing one of its deadliest flood disasters, with over 320 lives lost and widespread destruction reported.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is in a state of emergency after heavy monsoon rains and sudden cloudbursts triggered deadly flash floods across the province.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and multiple media reports, over 321 people have died, with 307 deaths reported in KP alone, as of August 15, 2025.

At least 157 people perished in the district of Buner in a single day, many of them crushed beneath boulders or carried away by strong currents.

According to the Associated Press, which cited local authorities and witnesses, rocks and debris flattened entire neighborhoods in a matter of minutes, destroying entire homes in the villages of Pir Baba and Malik Pura.

Only those who climbed to higher ground survived, according to a local police officer who spoke to AP, who said their station was washed away.

Rescuers are still looking for survivors after dozens of homes were completely washed away, according to emergency services spokesman Mohammad Suhail.

Since the monsoon season began on June 26, more than 541 people have died throughout Pakistan, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Roadblocks and communication failures are other issues that rescue crews are addressing.

The 911 emergency helpline has been activated by the federal government to offer impacted communities 24/7 assistance.

This flood disaster in KP is among the deadliest in years, highlighting the urgent need for better early warning systems and stronger infrastructure.

While NDMA and PDMA continue rescue efforts, more rain is expected, keeping the situation critical.
