(Web Desk): Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela announced on Sunday that Malta will recognize the State of Palestine next month.

According to a foreign media reports, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed that Malta will officially recognize the state of Palestine on June 20, 2025.

During a political event, Abele made this announcement. He states, “We cannot close our eyes to this human tragedy that is getting worse every day," Abela was quoted by the newspaper as saying in reference to Israel s brutal bombardment of Gaza, which killed nearly 54,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom were women and children.

It should be noted that Malta voted in favor of granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations Security Council in April 2023, but despite this, the country has not yet officially recognized the Palestinian state.

147 out of 193 UN member states have so far recognized Palestine as a sovereign state.

In recent years, countries such as Armenia, Slovenia, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados have also joined the list.

However, despite this growing global support, several major Western powers, including the US, UK, Australia and Germany, have not yet recognized a Palestinian state. Last month, French President Emmanuel Macron indicated that France could make a decision in the coming months.
