According to media reports, the US F-15 fighter jet came under fire while flying over southern Iran. Iranian air defence systems allegedly struck the aircraft, forcing it to crash during the incident.
Both pilots on board managed to eject safely before the aircraft went down. They parachuted into Iranian territory and landed in a southern area of the country.
Reports say the pilots remained safe after landing and waited for assistance. Despite the tense situation, they were not seriously injured during the ejection.
Nearly an hour later, a rescue operation was reportedly carried out. An American Israeli rescue team managed to reach the location where the pilots had landed.
The team quickly evacuated the pilots from Iranian territory in what is being described as a risky and urgent mission. After the extraction, the two pilots were transferred to a US military base located in Saudi Arabia.
