Tensions over the Iran war escalated further after the former head of Britain’s intelligence agency warned that the conflict is unnecessary, even as the US Senate rejected a resolution to halt military action against Tehran.
Former MI6 Chief Questions Need for Iran War
John Sawers, former chief of MI6, said in a televised interview that there was no urgent need to wage war against Iran. He argued that there was no clear evidence of an imminent Iranian pre-emptive attack that would justify large-scale military action.
Sawers warned that even under improved conditions, post-conflict Iran could resemble Venezuela, but with the risk of a far more dangerous and unstable regional situation. His remarks have intensified debate over the justification and long-term consequences of the Iran conflict.
US Senate Rejects Resolution to Halt Iran Strikes
Meanwhile, the United States Senate voted down a bipartisan resolution aimed at pressuring President Donald Trump to seek congressional approval before launching further airstrikes on Iran.
The resolution was rejected by a vote of 52 to 47 in the 100-member Senate. Lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties had proposed the measure, calling for a halt to airstrikes and formal authorization from Congress before continuing military operations.
However, a majority of senators backed continued military action, underscoring strong political divisions over US foreign policy and Middle East security strategy.

IAEA Chief: No Evidence Iran Building Nuclear Bomb
Adding another dimension to the crisis, Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, stated that there is currently no evidence that Iran is developing a nuclear bomb.
Grossi acknowledged serious concerns regarding Iran’s large stockpile of enriched uranium but stressed that proof of an active nuclear weapons program has not been found. He called on Tehran to fully cooperate with international inspectors to ensure transparency regarding its nuclear activities.
Tucker Carlson’s Explosive Claims
US conservative commentator Tucker Carlson made fresh allegations related to the Iran war. He claimed that authorities in Qatar and Saudi Arabia recently detained suspected Mossad-linked agents allegedly planning bomb attacks.
Carlson further alleged that Israel’s strategic objectives may extend beyond Iran, potentially impacting Gulf nations including Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait. These claims have not been independently verified.
Rising Middle East Tensions
The developments highlight escalating Middle East tensions, with political, military, and nuclear dimensions converging simultaneously. As diplomatic efforts remain uncertain, the situation continues to evolve amid global scrutiny.
