US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh Iran ultimatum, warning that Tehran has only 48 hours to reach a deal or reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, or face what he described as severe consequences and a major escalation.
In a post on social media, Trump referred back to his earlier warning that Iran was given a 10-day window to negotiate or take action regarding energy and maritime routes. He claimed that time is now running out, stating that only 48 hours remain before “serious consequences” follow.
Trump’s Warning on Iran Nuclear and Energy Issues
Trump also reiterated his long-standing concerns about a potential nuclear Iran, linking the ultimatum to broader regional security and global energy stability. He previously announced a temporary pause on possible strikes targeting Iranian energy infrastructure, but maintained pressure on Tehran to comply with US demands.

Iran’s Military Response and Strait of Hormuz Position
Following Trump’s statement, Iranian military officials strongly rejected the pressure tactics. A spokesperson for Iran’s General Staff reportedly said that Tehran’s strategy is to push US forces out of the region and make the presence of American troops in neighboring countries unsustainable.
The official warned that any ground operations would face severe resistance and heavy losses, adding that the region would become highly dangerous for US forces if escalation continues.
Iran has also reinforced its stance on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes. Iranian authorities have reportedly declared that access to the strait will not be allowed for US and Israeli vessels under current conditions.
Iranian Parliament’s Position on Strait Security
The Iranian parliament has also emphasized that passage through the Strait of Hormuz now requires explicit Iranian permission. Lawmakers described the waterway as a key strategic asset under military control, stating that its security status has fundamentally changed due to ongoing tensions.
Officials further warned that Iran will defend the strait “at any cost,” highlighting its importance for global energy supply chains and regional geopolitical stability.
