Kuwait updates visa & residency rules: Key alert for Pakistanis
(Web Desk): Kuwait has announced new residency and visit visa regulations for foreigners, including Pakistanis, standardizing fees, updating investor rules, and enforcing stricter residency conditions effective December 23, 2025.

The Kuwait Ministry of Interior has introduced revised rules to streamline visa procedures and ensure consistency across all categories. The updated regulations apply to foreign residents, visitors, investors, and domestic workers. Pakistani citizens residing in or planning to visit Kuwait are directly impacted by these changes.

Standardized Visa Fees
Under the new system, entry and visit visas now carry a monthly fee of 10 Kuwaiti dinars, ensuring a uniform fee structure for all expatriates, including Pakistani nationals.

Extended Residency for Foreign Investors
Foreign investors entering Kuwait through the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) may qualify for long-term residency of up to 15 years.

  • Residency permits are issued following official confirmation from KDIPA that investment criteria are met.
  • These provisions are especially beneficial for Pakistani entrepreneurs and investors seeking to expand business operations in Kuwait.

Newborn Registration Rules
The executive regulations also cover children of foreign nationals:

  • Parents have a four-month grace period to register births
  • Late registration fines apply: 2 KD per day for the first month, then 4 KD per day thereafter

Domestic Worker Regulations
For Pakistani domestic workers in Kuwait, the new rules stipulate:

  • Minimum age: 21 years, Maximum age: 60 years
  • Residency permits issued upon employer request in coordination with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs
  • Workers may remain outside Kuwait for up to four months; exceeding this period cancels residency unless an absence permit is approved by the sponsor

Objective and Impact of the New Measures
The Ministry emphasized that the regulations aim to:

  • Organize and modernize Kuwait’s residency system
  • Clarify the rights and responsibilities of residents, investors, and employers
  • Ensure transparency and standardize fees for all visa categories
For Pakistani nationals, these reforms mean clearer rules, predictable visa charges, and streamlined processes for business, employment, and family matters.

Authorities’ Advisory
Pakistani residents and visitors are advised to comply with the new visa and residency rules to avoid fines, cancellations, or legal complications. Employers are also urged to follow updated guidelines for domestic workers.
