(Web Desk): Iran begins major naval drills in Strait of Hormuz as regional tensions grow following signals of increased US naval presence.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has launched large-scale naval exercises named “Smart Control of the Strait of Hormuz” in one of the world’s most sensitive maritime routes.

According to Iranian state media, the joint military drills are taking place in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit corridor. The exercises are being supervised by IRGC commander Mohammad Pakpour, who is overseeing operational activities and combat readiness.

Officials said the primary objective of the drills is to evaluate the operational preparedness of naval units and test their ability to respond quickly and effectively to potential security and military threats. The exercises are designed to simulate real combat scenarios and enhance coordination between different naval forces.

Iranian media reported that the drills also include practical demonstrations of defense strategies across critical maritime zones, including the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. These areas hold immense geographical and strategic importance for Iran’s national defense and global energy security.

Analysts believe the timing of the drills is significant, as tensions in the region appear to be rising following signals from Donald Trump about potentially deploying another aircraft carrier to the Middle East. Such developments have increased concerns about possible military escalation.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most critical chokepoints for global oil shipments. Any military activity in this region is closely monitored by international markets, as it can directly impact global energy prices and regional stability.
