Hamas announces end of Gaza government, hands power to technocratic committee
The latest Hamas announcement said the decision is aimed at allowing the Palestinian technocratic committee to take full responsibility for the Gaza administration after a Gaza ceasefire.
Hamas officials said the group has no intention of becoming part of Gaza’s future governing structure once the ceasefire takes effect.
A Hamas spokesperson said the Hamas Gaza government believes it has completed its role after nearly 20 years of governing the territory.
The spokesperson added that the group now wants the Palestinian technocratic committee to manage civilian affairs and continue the process of rebuilding the Gaza administration.
The Hamas announcement also urged countries involved in mediation to ensure that the ceasefire agreement is fully implemented.
According to the spokesperson, “the ball is now in the court of the mediating countries,” as efforts continue to secure a lasting Gaza ceasefire.
Reports say the Palestinian technocratic committee was created with support from Trump’s Board of Peace initiative.
If the transition moves forward, the committee will oversee the Gaza administration and handle civil governance after the Gaza ceasefire, replacing the Hamas Gaza government.
The Hamas announcement comes after Hamas controlled Gaza for around two decades. The decision represents a major change in Gaza governance, with responsibility expected to shift from the Hamas Gaza government to a civilian administrative body.

Although Hamas has confirmed the decision, officials have not yet announced a timeline for the transfer of power.
It also remains unclear how the new Gaza governance system will function or when the Palestinian technocratic committee will officially begin its work.
Political observers believe the move could reshape future peace efforts and improve prospects for reconstruction if the Gaza ceasefire holds.
However, they say successful Gaza governance will depend on cooperation among Palestinian groups, regional mediators and international stakeholders.
