Turkey school shooting leaves 11 injured, 15-year-old detained
The shooting happened around 8am Tuesday near İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Turgutlu district.
The suspected shooter, described as a ninth-grade student, was detained by police after the attack.
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said two of the injured were in serious condition. The victims were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Police and emergency medical teams were sent to the area shortly after reports of gunfire emerged.
15-year-old student detained after shooting
The suspect was reportedly a student at the school and was carrying a shotgun during the incident.
Local reports said the teenager allegedly obtained the weapon from his grandmother’s home before going to the area around the school.
Authorities have not yet established a definitive motive for the shooting.
Investigators are examining several possibilities, including reports that the teenager may have faced bullying at school.
Two chief prosecutors have been assigned to investigate the incident, while authorities continue examining how the teenager obtained the firearm.
The suspect has been detained as the investigation continues. Further legal proceedings will determine the next steps in the case.

Parents and grandfather also detained
The suspect’s mother, father and grandfather were also detained as part of the investigation, according to Justice Minister Gürlek.
The grandfather was reportedly the owner of the shotgun used in the attack.
Investigators are expected to examine how the firearm was stored and how the teenager was able to gain access to it.
Authorities are also looking into the responsibilities of the adults connected to the weapon and whether proper supervision and storage requirements were followed.
The detentions do not by themselves establish criminal responsibility, as the investigation is still ongoing.
CCTV footage under investigation
Security camera footage reportedly captured the suspected shooter carrying the weapon before and after the incident.
Reports said the teenager was seen walking through streets near the school while holding the shotgun.
Other footage reportedly showed him leaving the area on foot after the shooting.
Police later detained the suspect, bringing the immediate search operation to an end.
Officials have not announced a final account of the sequence of events or confirmed the motive.

Parents clash with police outside school
The shooting caused panic among parents who rushed towards the school after learning about the incident.
Local reports said tensions rose outside the school as police restricted access to the area while securing the scene.
Some parents reportedly confronted police officers who were preventing people from entering the school grounds.
Authorities kept the area under security control as emergency workers treated and transported those injured.
The incident also caused major concern among students, teachers and families in the local community.
Education ministry orders separate investigation
Turkey’s Ministry of National Education said the incident had deeply affected the country’s education community.
The ministry sent three inspectors to Manisa to conduct a separate examination alongside the investigation by local authorities.
Psychosocial support teams were also deployed to help students, teachers and parents affected by the incident.
The school suspended educational activities on Tuesday following the shooting.
The ministry said relevant state institutions, including security and medical teams, had responded from the first moments of the incident.
It added that a comprehensive investigation was underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
