(Web Desk): The Bangladesh government has announced revised office and bank timings across the country as part of an energy-saving initiative.

In a move to conserve energy, the Bangladesh government has announced revised working hours for public and private offices. According to the latest cabinet decision, offices will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., while markets and shopping malls will close by 6:00 p.m.

The decision was finalized during a cabinet meeting on Thursday night at the National Assembly Secretariat in Dhaka, chaired by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. Cabinet Secretary Nasim Al-Thani told the media that the changes aim to reduce electricity and fuel demand amid the ongoing global energy crisis.

The government has also introduced additional measures, including fuel rationing, restrictions on vehicle sales, and shortened hours for fuel stations. Authorities cited panic buying, hoarding, and long queues at petrol pumps as major challenges, warning that supplies remain tight despite some relief during holidays.

Prime Minister Tariq Rahman assured the public that the situation will continue to be monitored and additional measures may be taken if necessary. The new timings are effective immediately, applying to all offices, markets, and shopping centers nationwide.
