The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said American forces have diverted 59 commercial vessels as part of enforcement operations under the “Steel Wall” blockade imposed against Iran.

According to CENTCOM, US forces have also disabled three vessels and boarded two others during the ongoing operation. The command said the measures are aimed at ensuring full compliance with the blockade.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, CENTCOM said the reported actions had been carried out through August 12.

The announcement comes as the United States continues to strengthen its military presence in the region amid growing tensions surrounding Iran and regional shipping routes.

CENTCOM did not provide detailed information about the identities, ownership or cargoes of the commercial vessels involved. It also did not immediately explain where the ships were diverted or provide further details about the two boarding operations.

The US military also released a photograph showing an F/A-18 fighter jet taking off from the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush. CENTCOM said the aircraft was supporting US operations to enforce the blockade in regional waters.

The deployment highlights the role of US naval and air forces in monitoring maritime activity and enforcing Washington’s measures against Iran.

The latest figures are likely to draw further attention to commercial shipping in the region, as vessel diversions and inspections could affect maritime traffic, trade routes and shipping operations.
