(Web Desk): UN chief Antonio Guterres praises Pakistan and regional mediators after a US-Iran agreement brings a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the US-Iran peace deal, calling it a critical step towards ending the conflict in the Middle East. The agreement includes a permanent ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, Guterres said he hopes all parties will build on this momentum and continue efforts towards a final and lasting solution to the conflict. His spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, shared the statement.

The UN chief also expressed deep appreciation for the role of Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and other regional countries. He said their efforts helped support negotiations that led to the agreement. The United Nations further said it stands ready to assist both sides in achieving a durable and comprehensive peace in the region.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that a deal between the United States and Iran has been reached after intensive negotiations. He said both sides have agreed to an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump also confirmed the agreement, saying the deal with Iran is now complete. He announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of the US naval blockade, calling it part of the new arrangement.
