Washington (Web Desk): Trump threatens a 200% tariff on French wine if France refuses to join the Gaza ‘Board of Peace’, raising pressure through trade and diplomacy.

US President Donald Trump has warned that he will impose a 200 percent tariff on French wine and champagne if France does not join his newly formed “Board of Peace” linked to Gaza.

France is among around 60 countries invited to join the committee. The board was first presented as a plan to help rebuild Gaza, but its structure suggests a wider role in managing global conflicts.

The warning came after a close aide to French President Emmanuel Macron said France does not plan to accept the invitation to join the board.

Responding to the comment, Trump said, “Nobody wants him because he’s going to be out of office very soon. I’ll put a 200 percent tariff on his wines and champagnes and he’ll join, but he doesn’t have to.”

President Macron’s five-year term ends in May 2027. Under French law, he cannot run for a third term.

According to a document seen by Reuters, the US government is seeking $1 billion in cash from countries that want to remain on the board for more than three years.

Trump has already linked long-term membership to large financial contributions, turning the board into a mix of diplomacy and funding.

The US president also recently shared personal messages from Macron, in which the French leader invited him to a dinner in Paris.

The exchange highlights rising tension as trade threats, diplomacy, and global politics collide over the proposed peace body.
