LAHORE (Web Desk): Pakistan expressed ‘profound concern’ over Venezuela at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), urging restraint and dialogue to prevent rising tensions from threatening peace.

Pakistan raised serious concerns over the situation in Venezuela during an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council. The meeting was called to discuss recent political and security developments in the country.

Addressing the Council, Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative Ambassador Usman Jadoon warned that growing tensions in Venezuela could harm regional and international peace and security. He said new instability is dangerous at a time when the world is already facing multiple crises.

Ambassador Jadoon reminded members that the UN Charter requires all states to avoid the ‘threat or use of force’. He stressed respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference, and peaceful settlement of disputes.

He said unilateral military actions violate these “sacrosanct principles” and also undermine sovereign immunity. Such steps, he warned, create dangerous precedents and weaken the global legal system.

Jadoon cautioned that actions like these often fuel instability and can lead to “unpredictable and uncontrollable outcomes for years to come“.

Calling for calm, the Pakistani envoy said the only way forward is ‘dialogue and diplomacy’. He stressed that lasting solutions can only come through peaceful means and with full respect for the will of the Venezuelan people, without outside interference.

He expressed hope that Latin America and the Caribbean, known as a ‘Zone of Peace’, would remain free from conflict and continue moving toward cooperation and prosperity.

Pakistan urged all sides to show maximum restraint, reduce tensions, and avoid steps that could worsen the situation. It also encouraged dialogue through sincere mediation efforts.

Ambassador Jadoon noted that the offices of the UN secretary-general remain available to support mediation.

He concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to international peace, saying stability in Venezuela and the well-being of its people must remain the top priority.
