Joe Biden’s cancer spreads to bones, son reveals new update
Former US president Joe Biden was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May 2025, shortly after leaving the White House.
Doctors found that the cancer had already spread to his bones when it was diagnosed. Biden later began treatment that included radiation and hormone therapy.
The former president, now 83, had previously said his treatment was going well. However, his son has now provided a more serious update about the progression of the disease.
Hunter Biden shares new details
Speaking in an interview with BBC Newsnight, Hunter Biden said his father’s cancer had continued to spread despite treatment.
Hunter said the disease had metastasised into Biden’s bones and had spread further. He also described the illness as very painful and debilitating.
The comments offered a rare public insight into the former president’s current condition. Hunter became emotional at several points while discussing his father’s health.
Despite the difficulties, Hunter said his father remained active and continued working on matters important to him.
He also said Biden remained deeply committed to the United States and continued to believe strongly in the country.

Biden’s cancer diagnosis
Biden announced his prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025, around four months after leaving office as the oldest sitting US president.
At the time, his office said medical tests had revealed an aggressive form of prostate cancer with bone metastasis.
The diagnosis attracted widespread attention because prostate cancer is common among older men, while the spread of the disease can make treatment more complicated.
Biden subsequently underwent medical treatment, including radiation and hormone therapy. He later indicated that the treatment was progressing well.
The latest comments from his son, however, suggest that the disease remains a serious challenge despite those efforts.
