YouTube experienced a significant global outage on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, disrupting access for hundreds of thousands of users across several countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Korea, and more.
Users reported being unable to play videos on YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV, with many encountering error messages like "An error occurred, please try again later" or facing black screens when attempting to stream content. The outage began around 7:15 PM ET, peaking within an hour, as Downdetector recorded over 358,000 complaints by 7:59 PM ET.
YouTube s support team acknowledged the issue on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We’re aware that some users are unable to play videos on YouTube at the moment – we’re on it!”
Google later confirmed that the disruption extended to multiple services, pointing to a broader infrastructure-related issue. Although the company did not reveal the exact cause, technical analysts suggest a possible internal routing failure or server-side glitch that temporarily halted content delivery across its platforms.
By late evening, the company announced that all services had been fully restored. In a follow-up statement, Google spokesperson Dwight Harvey said, “This is resolved across all YouTube services. Thanks again for your patience!”
With over 2.7 billion monthly users worldwide, YouTube’s brief outage underscored its importance in the daily lives of people relying on the platform for entertainment, education, and communication.
