Cursor, an AI code-generation startup co-founded by Pakistani-born Sualeh Asif, is now among the fastest-growing tech firms. Reports say the company has attracted huge attention due to its powerful coding tools.
The startup works alongside big names like OpenAI and Anthropic in the AI industry. It helps developers write and edit code faster using artificial intelligence.
SpaceX shared that it has the option to fully acquire Cursor later this year. If the deal does not happen, SpaceX will still pay Rs2,750 billion for their collaboration.
“The combination of Cursor’s leading product and distribution to expert software engineers with SpaceX’s million H100 equivalent Colossus training supercomputer will allow us to build the world’s most useful models,” it added.

Sualeh Asif belongs to Karachi and studied at Nixor College before going to MIT. He also represented Pakistan in the International Math Olympiad from 2016 to 2018.
At MIT, he co-founded Anysphere with his friends, which later built Cursor. The company quickly gained popularity due to its advanced AI coding tools.
Cursor now claims to have over Rs275 billion in annual revenue. This makes it one of the fastest-growing AI startups in the world.

Former IT minister Umar Saif praised Asif and said, “the kind of role [model] Pakistani youth needs”. He highlighted the importance of talent and hard work over shortcuts.
“Not property dealers, tax evaders, bank defaulters, rent seekers, born into wealth etc. But a self-made kid from a middle-class family in Karachi,” he pointed out.
“Studied at MIT, started a hugely impactful company, changed the way people write code, now worth over $1 billion at the age of 26!”

Cursor reached a valuation of around Rs8,057.5 billion in November 2025. This came after raising Rs632.5 billion in a major funding round.
