YouTube is set to introduce a new artificial intelligence feature that could change how creators make short-form videos on the platform. The upcoming tool will allow creators to generate AI-powered Shorts using their own image, giving them a new way to create content without being on camera.
The plan was shared by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan as part of the company’s broader 2026 strategy, which focuses heavily on expanding AI tools for creators. The feature will join YouTube’s existing AI options for Shorts, including AI-generated clips, visual effects and automatic language dubbing.
Shorts remain one of YouTube’s fastest-growing formats, drawing around 200 billion views every day. YouTube believes the new AI capability will help creators stay consistent with uploads while experimenting with new styles of storytelling and production.
At the same time, the platform has stressed that AI will be used to assist creators, not replace them.

YouTube is also firming up its safety measure that allow creators to control how their image is used in AI-generated content and to report any unauthorized use of their face or voice.
While the company has not announced a confirmed launch date, the feature is expected to roll out sometime in 2026.
