Web Desk: A major WhatsApp Web update is rolling out, bringing WhatsApp group calls and video meetings directly to browsers, a feature many users have been waiting for.

The latest WhatsApp Web update is currently being tested by selected WhatsApp beta testers and will gradually become available to more users in the coming weeks.

The new feature expands the capabilities of WhatsApp Web, making it much closer to the mobile and desktop experience.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp Web introduced support for individual WhatsApp voice calls and WhatsApp video calls.

However, users still had to switch to the mobile app or desktop application for group conversations. With this latest WhatsApp Web update, users can now start WhatsApp group calls directly from their browser.

To use the feature, users simply need to open a group chat and click the call button if it appears at the top of the conversation.

They can then choose between WhatsApp voice calls or WhatsApp video calls, depending on their needs.

One of the most useful additions is the ability to select specific participants before starting a call. Instead of ringing everyone in a group, users can choose only the people they want to include in group video calls or voice discussions.

According to the company, WhatsApp group calls on the browser support up to 32 participants. The same limit applies to both group video calls and voice calls, matching the functionality already available on mobile devices and desktop apps.

Security remains a major focus. All WhatsApp voice calls, WhatsApp video calls, and WhatsApp group calls are protected with end-to-end encryption. This means only participants can access the conversation, while WhatsApp and Meta cannot view or listen to call content.

The update also includes WhatsApp call links, allowing users to create and share links for meetings and group conversations. These WhatsApp call links can be sent to trusted participants, making it easier to join calls without manually adding people.

Another important feature is screen sharing WhatsApp support. During group video calls, users can use screen sharing WhatsApp tools to display presentations, documents, websites, or other content directly from their browser.

The new functionality is expected to be particularly useful for Linux users, who do not have access to a dedicated WhatsApp desktop application. For many of them, WhatsApp Web is the primary way to access the service on a computer.

The rollout is currently limited to some WhatsApp beta testers, but more users are expected to receive access soon. The company believes these additions will make WhatsApp Web a more complete communication platform for both personal and professional use.
