Thousands of users lose access to WhatsApp accounts
Many WhatsApp users reported that they unexpectedly lost access after their accounts were placed under WhatsApp account review.
Users said they did not receive any warning before being logged out. Instead, they saw a message explaining that their account activity and device information were being checked to ensure compliance with WhatsApp’s Terms of Service.
Although the exact number of affected accounts has not been confirmed, WhatsApp has more than three billion monthly active users.
Even a small percentage of affected accounts could leave thousands of people unable to use the app.
Users report sudden restrictions
Complaints quickly spread across social media platforms, including X and Threads, where WhatsApp users said they could no longer send or receive messages.
Several users claimed their WhatsApp account blocked notification appeared even though they had not violated any rules. Others said the issue disrupted their work, business communication and personal conversations.
The message shown during the WhatsApp account review informed users that the verification process would normally be completed within 24 hours.

Meta confirms the issue
Meta acknowledged the reports and confirmed that it is aware of the problem.
A Meta spokesperson said the company continuously monitors suspicious activity to protect users from spam, scams and other abuse. However, the spokesperson admitted that automated systems can sometimes mistakenly flag genuine accounts.
According to Meta, the company has already started restoring access to affected users and is working to fix the issue as quickly as possible.
Cause still unknown
Despite confirming the issue, Meta has not explained what caused the sudden wave of reviews.
The company also did not clarify whether the WhatsApp access issue affected specific countries, devices or user groups.
Officials have not revealed how many accounts were impacted or whether a technical fault triggered the unexpected review process.

What affected users should do
Users whose accounts remain under review have been advised to wait until WhatsApp completes the verification process.
Experts also recommend avoiding repeated login attempts or using unofficial apps while the review is ongoing, as this could worsen the WhatsApp access issue.
If users receive a WhatsApp account blocked message in error, Meta says the account should be restored once the review is completed. The company also says it is working to reduce similar WhatsApp access issue cases in the future.
