Pakistani freelancers earn Rs49 billion in July 2026, up 45.5%
The increase highlights the growing role of freelancers in Pakistan’s foreign exchange income.
Freelance workers generated $175.44 million through services during the month. State Bank of Pakistan data showed that earnings were up 45.5% from $120.56 million recorded in July 2025.
Freelance exports show strong growth
Freelance export receipts increased by $54.88 million compared with the same month last year. The rise came during the first month of fiscal year 2026-27.
The latest figures show that online workers are becoming an increasingly important part of Pakistan’s digital economy. Their earnings also provide a growing source of foreign exchange for the country.
IT and non-IT earnings rise
IT-related freelance services generated $106.78 million in July. This was higher than the $89.87 million recorded during the same month last year.
Non-IT freelance services performed even more strongly during the month. Earnings reached $68.66 million, more than double the $30.68 million recorded in July 2025.
Skills could drive further growth
Pakistan Freelancers Association Chairman Ibrahim Amin said freelance export receipts had maintained a steady growth trend. However, he said the sector would need growth of more than 50% in the coming months to achieve a major increase by the end of the financial year.
Amin said freelancing provides young people and students with an opportunity to earn money online. He stressed that workers need in-demand technical and soft skills to compete successfully on international platforms.
Important skills include business development, communication and client management. These abilities can help freelancers attract international clients and build long-term online careers.
More support for digital workers
Amin said the government and private sector were working to expand skills development opportunities for young people and students. The aim is to help more people enter Pakistan’s growing digital workforce.
He also highlighted the introduction of separate freelancer awards by the Pakistan Freelancers Association and the Pakistan Software Export Board. The awards could recognize the sector’s contribution and encourage more young people to explore freelancing and other online work.
The July figures show that freelancing is becoming an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan. The strong increase in both IT and non-IT services suggests that opportunities are expanding beyond traditional technology work.
The biggest challenge will be maintaining this growth throughout the financial year. Better training, stronger digital infrastructure and improved access to international clients could help freelancers earn even more.
For young people, the growing freelance market offers another path to income without needing to work for a local employer. Building practical skills and maintaining strong communication with international clients will remain important for long-term success.
