The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has clarified that internet services across the country will remain fully operational on January 15, rejecting reports that suggested a nationwide disruption or slowdown.
In an official statement, PTA officials said that claims circulating on social media regarding internet outages are false and misleading. The authority confirmed that there have been no reports of service interruptions, and internet connectivity across Pakistan continues to function normally.
PTA further explained that all major upstream internet providers, including Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Transworld, are operating smoothly. Network monitoring has not shown any degradation in service quality, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for residential and commercial users alike.
The clarification follows public concern after an email from internet service provider Nayatel informed customers about scheduled maintenance work on one of Pakistan’s submarine cables on January 15, 2026, starting around 2 PM. The email noted that the maintenance could last up to eight hours and might result in temporary internet slowness. However, it did not specify which submarine cable would be affected or its location.

Addressing these concerns, PTA emphasized that routine submarine cable maintenance is a standard technical process and does not usually impact nationwide internet services. The authority assured users that sufficient backup capacity is available to manage traffic during maintenance periods.
PTA urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information and rely only on official sources for updates related to telecom services. The regulator reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stable, secure, and high-quality internet connectivity across the country, assuring consumers that no inconvenience is expected during the scheduled maintenance activity.
