(Web Desk): Jazz and Zong have launched 5G services in Pakistan, bringing ultra fast internet to major cities and marking a new digital era for users.

Two major telecom companies, Zong and Jazz, have officially started 5G services after receiving licenses from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. This is being seen as a big step forward for the country’s technology sector.

Zong has rolled out its 5G network in more than 16 cities. These include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta. The company plans to install and upgrade over 1,000 5G sites across Pakistan in 2026 to expand coverage further.

The company has been preparing for this moment since 2019, when it conducted Pakistan’s first 5G trial. During testing, Zong achieved speeds of more than 1.4Gbps, showing the power of this new technology.

At the same time, Jazz has also launched its 5G services across around 180 sites in major cities like Multan and Faisalabad, along with other big urban centers. The rollout is part of a larger plan to improve internet speed, reduce delays, and provide a better user experience.

The license agreement was signed in the presence of Shehbaz Sharif and other top officials, showing strong government support for digital growth.

Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim said: “Today marks the beginning of Pakistan’s 5G era—unlocking a new wave of innovation, opportunity, and growth. As we lead this transition, our focus remains clear: delivering faster, more reliable connectivity while ensuring that no Pakistani is left behind. At Jazz, our purpose is to enable a Better Life for All—and this is a significant step forward in that journey.”

Jazz has also secured spectrum in multiple bands, helping it build a strong and reliable network. The company has committed about USD 1 billion for Pakistan’s digital future, adding to more than USD 11 billion already invested over the years.

With both companies moving forward, Pakistan is now entering the 5G era. More cities are expected to get access as the rollout continues nationwide.

This is a big step for Pakistan’s internet future. Faster speed means better online work, education and business. But full benefits will take time as coverage grows slowly. Users may also need new 5G phones to enjoy these services.
