The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said that any mobile SIM not used for calls, messages, or internet for 180 consecutive days will be deactivated. These SIMs will later be made available for new users.
According to PTA, the move is meant to strengthen mobile network efficiency and stop misuse of inactive SIMs. Authorities say such SIMs are often involved in fraud and other illegal activities, creating problems for users and service providers.
The policy will apply to all mobile companies across the country. PTA said the process will be carried out in a transparent and fair manner to ensure no user is treated unjustly.
Once blocked, the unused SIMs can be reissued to new customers. PTA said this step will help bring idle resources back into use and support better service delivery.

The authority assured users that awareness campaigns will be launched to inform them in advance. PTA said the goal is to avoid inconvenience while ensuring safer and better mobile services.
This decision targets misuse of unused SIMs. Users must stay alert to keep their numbers active. The move may reduce fraud cases nationwide. Better awareness can help avoid inconvenience.
