(Web Desk) Meta-owned WhatsApp has begun rolling out its much-anticipated chat and channel translation feature to select Android users enrolled in its beta programme.

As reported by WABetaInfo, the feature is currently available in beta version 2.25.12.25, with a wider public release expected soon.

The update allows users to translate messages written in languages such as Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi, and Russian directly within the app. A major benefit is that translations are processed on-device, meaning the tool can function even without an internet connection.

To use the feature, users must first download language packs, either individually or as part of a multi-language detection pack.

Once installed, the translation toggle appears in the chat info screen and can be enabled for both individual and group chats.

Users can also manually translate specific messages by long-pressing on them and selecting "Translate."

While the on-device translation may not be as accurate as cloud-based alternatives due to its lightweight nature, WhatsApp is actively seeking user feedback to improve the experience. Importantly, feedback is processed without transmitting message content to Meta, maintaining user privacy.
