Mobile users warned to renew CNICs or risk SIM suspension
PTA has advised mobile phone users to keep their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) valid and updated to prevent their SIM cards from being blocked.
According to the PTA, SIMs registered against expired, cancelled, fake, or deceased individuals’ CNICs are being blocked as part of efforts to strengthen digital security and improve identity verification systems in the country.
The authority urged citizens to renew their CNICs through NADRA as soon as possible to avoid disruptions in mobile services.
In its statement, the PTA stressed the importance of uninterrupted mobile connectivity and advised users to complete verification of their identity records on time.
The authority also asked users to keep their personal information updated with mobile operators and ensure that their CNIC status remains active through NADRA systems.
Earlier, NADRA announced that SIMs issued against expired or fake CNICs would be blocked immediately under a phased action plan.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at NADRA Headquarters. Officials said SIMs issued against CNICs that expired in 2017 or earlier would be blocked in the first phase of the operation.
In later phases, authorities will also block SIMs linked to CNICs cancelled after 2017. Officials further clarified that only valid and active CNICs will remain eligible for the issuance and continuation of mobile SIMs.
NADRA officials said the crackdown mainly targets SIMs registered in the names of deceased persons or individuals using expired identity documents. Authorities believe the move will help improve digital security, reduce illegal SIM usage, and strengthen the telecom verification system in Pakistan.
